Do You Accept Insurance?

If your health insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement for psychotherapy services depending on your plan.

I can provide a superbill containing the information you may need to submit a claim to your insurance company. You will have ongoing access to your scheduling and billing so you can stay current on your filing needs.

Because insurance plans vary considerably, I encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to ask about your specific out-of-network mental health benefits.

You may want to ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • What is my out-of-network deductible?
  • How much of my deductible have I met?
  • What percentage of psychotherapy is reimbursed after the deductible?
  • Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered each year?
  • Is preauthorization required?
  • Are couples or family therapy services covered?

I am not a Medicare or Medicaid provider.

Can I Choose Not to Use Insurance?

Yes.

Some clients choose to pay privately rather than seek insurance reimbursement.

Using insurance for psychotherapy may require certain clinical information, including a mental health diagnosis, to be provided to the insurance company.

You may choose to pay privately for services without submitting claims to insurance.

Do You Offer In-Person Therapy?

Yes.

I offer in-person psychotherapy in the Chapel Hill/Durham area.

Do You Offer Online Therapy?

Yes.

I provide secure telehealth sessions for clients located within North Carolina.

Do You Work With Couples?

Yes.

I have extensive experience working relationally with couples and families and am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

My couples work draws heavily from attachment theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy and family systems approaches.

What If I’m Considering Separation or Divorce?

You don’t have to decide whether you’re staying or leaving before beginning therapy.

I work with individuals and couples who are trying to understand what has happened within their relationship, what meaningful change would require and what they want to do next.

Do You Provide Christian Counseling?

For clients who desire it, I can integrate Christian faith, theology and spiritual formation into psychotherapy.

You do not need to be Christian—or religious—to work with me.

Clients are always free to determine whether and how spirituality becomes part of therapy.

What Happens During the First Session?

Our first full session gives us time to begin understanding what brings you to therapy.

I’ll ask about what’s happening currently as well as relevant aspects of your relationships, family, history and previous experiences. We’ll also talk about what you hope might change through therapy.

How Do I Know If We’re a Good Fit?

The relationship between therapist and client makes all the difference!

That’s why I offer a complimentary 20-minute consultation before scheduling your first full appointment.

We’ll briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and whether my experience and approach seem well matched to your needs.

If either of us believes another clinician or type of treatment would serve you better, we can talk about that as well.
